The Brand

Meet Mosquito Sniper, a venture rooted in innovation and driven by the dynamic duo, Ryan Powal—a seasoned Police Sergeant and former Assistant Team Leader of the northern Illinois Regional SWAT Team—and Kelly Powal, a dedicated Registered Nurse with a passion for pediatric care turned full-time entrepreneur.
The inception of Mosquito Sniper traces back to 2019, when exorbitant quotes from mosquito control companies prompted the Powals to seek an alternative solution. Faced with the prospect of shelling out $960 for a summer’s worth of applications, they refused to succumb to such steep costs. Enter Paul, a jack-of-all-trades and DIY enthusiast. In a stroke of ingenuity, he fashioned a universal misting system from hardware store parts, liberating their lawn from mosquitoes and pests alike.
The success of their makeshift solution sparked widespread interest, propelling Mosquito Sniper from a simple prototype to a fully patented, award-winning pest exterminating innovation by 2021. Today, Ryan and Kelly continue to revolutionize the pest control landscape, driven by their unwavering commitment to quality and affordability.

The Challenge:

The trials of running a small family business are numerous, as many entrepreneurs know firsthand, but the biggest obstacle small business face is the amount of balls they are forced to juggle on a day-to-day basis. From operations, accounting, marketing, and even basic I.T., the responsibilities are numerous and time is painfully finite.

Even though the business was growing strong in other areas (their website and small brick/mortar retailers), Amazon lagged behind the growth of the other channels considerably. While the demand and sales are extremely strong in the pest control niche on Amazon, Mosquito Sniper’s previous brand steward on the platform struggled with tapping into that demand in a meaningful way. The listing content was sparse, SEO weak, and being setup as an FBM seller significantly throttled the brand’s reach – even in peak months. Lastly, the distributor was not leveraging advertising which also stunted would be sales growth considerably.

The Strategy:

FBM delivery speeds and Prime filtering by customers were the first thing that needed to be addressed in getting things on track. Delivery speed and the prime badge have proven to be crucial in ranking organically and achieving ideal advertising placements at a strong frequency. Once Mosquito Sniper got its inventory into the FBA network – the foundation was set to get things on track.

The next hurdle was improving the organic reach of the listing. In spite of surprisingly good branded search from such a small brand, the listings were still underperforming strongly in terms of their rank on a large swath of important high search volume keywords. We employed our robust market analytics and keyword tools to ensure that the Amazon algorithm could successfully surface the listing for our target customers as often as possible on as many queries as possible.

Mosquito Sniper is a truly unique innovation and the value it provides is substantial relative to other offers in the marketplace. Showcasing this innovation in a clear way, demonstrating the ease of use/setup, as well as showcasing its value were of paramount importance in the top fold listing graphics. The strength of the final images were evident immediately in terms of conversion rate improvement and increased sales velocity.

The final piece to the puzzle was a robust & aggressive Amazon Advertising strategy. The brand was against the wall in terms of re-launch timing as peak selling season was right on top of them when they started working with Rainmkr.

The Results:

Our team knew Mosquito Sniper had a winner on their hands. It was a fantastic innovation that generated tremendous value. They just needed a strong helping hand on the marketing side of things. Before partnering with Rainmakr, Mosquito Sniper achieved moderate success with 600 units sold on their website. However, their Amazon sales were virtually nonexistent.

In just four weeks post-relaunch, their Amazon channel soared, averaging close to 500 units sold per week and steadily climbing. This translated to a remarkable 3.3X increase in unit sales, resulting in a staggering $70,000 boost in revenue. What’s even more impressive is the efficiency with which this growth was achieved. With a stellar Return on Advertising Spend (RoAS) of 5, Mosquito Sniper saw significant returns without breaking the bank. This success story underscores the power of coupling ingenious product innovation with strategic marketing prowess. And this is only the beginning for Mosquito Sniper; we anticipate a trajectory of robust growth in the years to come.
